"...
The Bump and Grindhouse’s debut ‘noir night of burlesque excess’
certainly did impress.
There was a range of activity buzzing in the atmosphere. From
the friendly hubbub of chatter by the bar, to the assortment of
finely dressed men and women lingering in anticipation for the
first act. There were endearing stalls of dresses and corsetry
to cater for the burlesque bombshell that bloomed within and an
opportunity to capture that moment with a pose (or two!). The
night itself suits anyone with a taste for an alternative appreciation
of burlesque. One that wouldn’t be a stranger in the life of a
Goth or rocker, which includes dressing to impress in anything
from PVC or Rock-a-Billy to, what I decided to dress as, a Lolita.
The performers were fantastic and certainly entertained. Lily
La Scala performed her foot slicing routine of walking on broken
glass. Miss Pink ‘n’ Fluffy also caught eyes with her neo-burlesque
performance which was laced with a fetish twist and Miss Golden
Delicious performed her signature act of being Eve, of the Garden
of Eden.
I have been waiting a while for a night like this to emerge, so
I had to come and see what it was all about. Granted, I was not
able to stay the whole night, which I regret soulfully, yet I
will definitely be coming back, with reinforcements! (Ok, the
rest of the burlesque society!) Bring on more Bump ‘n’ Grindhouse!..."
